Pre-Trip Spending

June 7th, 2013 at 04:23 pm

11-Day trip to California begins Monday, returning the following Thursday.

$2,800 - round trip air fair from ORD to LAX for seven, 11-day car rental of mini van
$630 - 2 day Go San Diego cards for seven
$130 - hotel in San Diego

My uncle covered the cost of two-day passes to Disneyland. My inlaws covered the cost of a limo to/from air port. My inlaws are also staying at our home to take care of our menagerie.

I am so looking forward to this trip. It's been two years since any major travel took place. My first time on a plane since 9/11, and the first time ever for my kids.

On FB I posted the "It Never Rains in CA" video!

Have a super vacation! As far as the airport is concerned, the less stuff you bring on the plane the better. Easily removed shoes/no belts help tremendously in getting through security.

Have a great trip! Keep tightlipped and be vigilant about your electronic devices never leaving your sight at the US airports. My wishes for you are that you and your family have comfortable, roomy seats on the safe and eventless flight, and no hassles about going to the lavatory when nature calls.

Yay! Have fun! This past trip I noticed the TSA people were a bit looser on shoes and nicer overall than they have been for years. I think the negative press + fact that this hasn't actually helped national security much = they're loosening up and trying to improve their image. Still tougher than pre-9/11, though, so be sure to read up on current procedures.

Have a wonderful, Disney Park vacation. Plan to arrive at airport more than an hour before departure since line-ups can stall unexpectedly. Stay cool in spite of the dumb things people in the line-up do. How exciting for DKs to be taking their 1st plane ride.

Wow - first time on a plane since pre 9/11... I remember my first flight post 9/11, maybe 5 months? later. Going through security with the removing of shoes, etc. and then seeing *armed* security guys roaming around. It was all I could do to not stare bug eyed at them. (These guys had what looked like to my untrained eye like semi machine guns.) Thankfully I haven't seen anything like that in the last few years!

Just be sure to wear easy to remove/put back on shoes, don't bring toothpaste in your carry on (unless you want to throw it away at the security gate), and triple check your carry on's for anything remotely "contraband."

Most of all though, Have Fun!
