Back to the Grindstone

August 29th, 2012 at 03:54 pm

Found out that my prepayment to next years' property taxes isn't an option available until 12/3. I've decided to use the money allocated for that ($250) and purchase a set of bunkbeds at Sam's Club which are $299. We're redoing kids rooms and trying to free up square footage in the boys' room. This summer we spent $220 on new comforters (three were purchased as Kohl's on sale and with the 30% off and Kohl's bucks, and two were from Walmart).

We're back into the second full week of school and we've got dioramas due next Wednesday for extra credit and since I've got another 8th grader this year, too, it seems that I can't escape Science Fair. This year the topic appears to be paper chromotagraphy. Definietly something I don't know a lot about.

The high schooler has joined the baking club and the photography club. She's anxiously waiting for Lacrosse to start, but that isn't until the spring. I image that I should start looking at sporting stores and watch for sales/coupons as I imagine Santa will be bringing her a Lacrosse stick for Christmas.

All for now. Off to read the blogs.

Lacrosse shafts and heads are so expensive. Luckily, girl's lacrosse is not as aggressive as boys' lacrosse. I've seen sticks broken in half during games and a good stick can cost well over $200. Can't wait to hear about her first season.

My daughter is a professional photographer. We bought her a camera for 8th grade graduation. Owf course she has upgraded since! Hurray for sports, so much fun to watch your kids play. I miss it. Daughter's website: www.kathleenamelia.com

@NJDeb: I called Dick's sporting goods and was told that $100 should get her a decent stick (since she'll be playing both offense and defense on the Frosh/Soph team). My hope is that she'll be able to get at least a year out of it. I also have a coupon for 20% off, so I think that is affordable. She's going to wear her soccer cleats so hopefully that will save some $ too.

@Homebody: Thanks for sharing the link; your girl is an amazing photographer! I especially liked the creativity of some of her shoots!

Thanks Laura. She has two weddings in South Carolina this weekend, then flies home Tuesday. I am ready to get out of this heat and back to cool Humboldt! Then she has one up in Humboldt September 15th!

Has your daughter thought about doing Senior Portraiture? That appears to be a huge thing in the Midwest now (based on pictures of recent grads that turn into photo shoots). I bet she could get a HUGE following for that!

She has done a few senior portraits. She needs to get her name out here in Temecula. She was very busy in South Carolina. She already has two weddings booked for next season and had to turn one down as it was the same day as one already booked!

Luckily she will be able to do her part for parent involvement at granddaughter's new school: St. Jeanne de Lestonnac.

We'll be in southern california in June; maybe your daughter could do a photo shoot with my girls in Oceanside? San Juan Capistrano? Something fun to think about. My girls would love it! And distance doesn't appear to be much of a problem if she's going from CA to SC!

Definitely! Get in touch with her from her blog. That is not too far at all. She is driving up to Humboldt for a wedding September 15th.....12.5 hours! She drove all over the South.
