Coupon organization - how do you do it?

August 17th, 2011 at 11:26 pm

I'm stocked up (snacks, produce, staples) for the next several weeks after a $323.84 shopping trip to Sam's (and the only non-food items were vitamins).

I do, however, have several piles of good coupons that I will plan on using to continue to supplement and build my stock pile. The system that I've had has been to use a small 4" x 6" soft-sided photo album and then stick an individual category in each sleeve. Not very ideal or efficient, and I think that I need to do something else.

I'm not an extreme couponer with multiple copies of flyers, but I do double the weekly coupons from my mom, plus my grandmother and aunt send me some.

What works for you? Please help me set up something simple, yet sustainable.

I have a binder with some clear plastic sleeves in it. I write the date on the front of the flyer and put it in a sleeve. I use couponmom.com to match coupons to sales. It works for me. I always have it in the car, too, in case there is an unadvertised sale and I know I've seen a coupon for something. I also use the sundaycouponpreview.com to find coupons for things I want, then I just flip to the right date in the binder.

I also have a folder in the binder where I put random coupons from the Valpak or in the mail. It works for me, so far!

I'm a very newbie couponer - just use coupons once in awhile. I got a Japanese paper wallet for .25 at a yard sale. Its the perfect length for the long Valpak coupons, perfect size and shape for the purse, and it has two lengthwise pockets. I sort the few coupons I have into 1. need to use this month and 2. coupons that I don't. I dig into pocket 1. first, then pocket 2.

Very bare bones, but it works for me.
